Still trying to post everyday! I wrote the below a few years back while practicing voices, and I thought it might be fun to post since it's that time of year...

The Toy Aisle

"Excuse me…hey, excuse me? Hi? Pardon me, I'm trying…hello? Hi, yes, you, can you help me?"

"Of course, ma'am, what can I do for you?"

"Oh thank goodness. I need help. I'm trying to find a gift for my thirteen year old nephew. Can you help me?"

"Thirteen? Sure, I can--"

"Oh, and no guns. Or weapons. His parents said no guns or weapons. Or video games. Especially no video games with guns or weapons, which, from what I can tell, rules out most of them."

"Um…okay, I can do that. Follow me."

"Great….Uh, so where are we going?"

"You were standing in the pink aisle, ma'am. Next to the Hello Kitty purses. Most thirteen year old boys aren't too keen on Hello Kitty."

"Oh. Yes, I suppose. Although, he's a little bit…well, yes, I suppose. Right. So, where are we going?"

"This area over here is blue, as you can see by the floor. You'll find items more…."

"What in the world are these?"

"Those? Robot gerbils."

"I'm sorry?"

"Gerbils. Little robotic gerbils. Kids love them. You do need to buy several, though, and, of course, the track. Oh, and the battle cage here is really popular."

"Battle…I'm sorry…you're serious? Gerbils?"

"Yup."

"Wow."

"They're really popular."

"Sure. Um…look, I can't buy him a robot gerbil. What else have you got?"

"Well, over here…."

"Are those robotic teddy bears?"

"Koalas, actually. Also very popular. Though, again, you need to buy the great arena, and some little toy cars for them to drive around in. Sold separately, of course."

"Of course."

"Kids really love these."

"I'm sure they do. What have you got that's not, oh, say, robotic. Or stupid."

"Can't help on the stupid, but…for not robotic, how about these over here."

"What are they?"

"Japanese little creatures that the kids imagine to be great warriors."

"They look like orange Japanese gerbils."

"They…yes, I get they sort of do."

"I take it, you also need to buy lots of stuff sold separately for these?"

"Well…."

"Is there anything in the store I can buy that's stand alone? I mean, what about something like Legos?"

"I thought you said he was thirteen."

"Yes."

"You do not want to buy Legos. He's too old. He wants video games, not Legos, but since you can't have video games, the next best thing is a robotic gerbil. Besides, you can't just buy Legos anymore. You have to buy Lego sets. Although…hey, I think there's a Lego set that can house the robotic gerbils."

"Look. How about water pistols? Do you have water pistols?"

"But I thought—?"

"Just show me where they are."

"They're over there. We also have nerf guns."

"Perfect."
